The Journey: Following breakfast at your hotel, you will drive to the Nalemoru Gate (Rongai Gate) for park registration. Your trek kicks off on a winding trail through local farmlands and beautiful pine forests. As you climb gently into the montane forest, you may spot brilliant Colobus monkeys. The day concludes at Simba Camp, located right on the edge of the heather zone with wide views over Kenya.

Activity: Trekking through the Moorland and Heather Zones

Distance: 12 km | Time: 6–7 Hours

Altitudes: 2,625m to 3,600m

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner | Stay: Kikelewa Camp

The Journey: Today features a steady uphill climb through open heather and moorland. You will stop at Second Cave (3,450m) for a hot lunch and a short rest. The trail then veers across the moorland towards the jagged peaks of Mawenzi. The landscape becomes more rugged but rewards you with breathtaking panoramas, ending at the sheltered Kikelewa Camp.

Activity: Alpine Desert Trek

Distance: 5 km | Time: 3–4 Hours

Altitudes: 3,600m to 4,315m

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner | Stay: Mawenzi Tarn Hut

The Journey: A short but steep climb takes you up a grassy ridge. You will witness the vegetation rapidly fade away as you cross into the stark volcanic Alpine Desert. Your home for the next two nights is Mawenzi Tarn Hut, uniquely positioned in a valley directly below the sheer, soaring cliffs of Mawenzi Peak. You'll arrive in time for a hot lunch and a relaxed afternoon.

Activity: High Altitude Acclimatization & Exploration

Distance: Variable (2–3 km) | Time: 2–3 Hours

Altitudes: 4,315m (Walks up to 4,500m)

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner | Stay: Mawenzi Tarn Hut

The Journey: This is your dedicated acclimatization day. Resting at 4,315m allows your body to build crucial red blood cells needed for the summit. In the morning, you will take a slow, scenic hike further up the ridges of Mawenzi for stunning photo opportunities before returning to camp for lunch. Spending the afternoon resting here gives you a tremendous physical advantage for the upcoming summit push.

Activity: Crossing "The Saddle"

Distance: 8 km | Time: 5–6 Hours

Altitudes: 4,315m to 4,700m

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner | Stay: Kibo Hut

The Journey: You leave Mawenzi behind and trek westward across "The Saddle"—a massive, barren, high-altitude desert plateau connecting Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. The landscape is completely surreal and moon-like. Walking slowly (pole pole), you will reach Kibo Hut (Base Camp) by early afternoon. After a warm meal, you will prepare your heavy clothes and summit gear, then head to bed early.

Activity: The Ultimate Summit Push & Long Descent

Distance: 6 km up / 9 km down | Time: 11–13 Hours

Altitudes: 4,700m to 5,895m (and down to 3,720m)

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner | Stay: Horombo Hut

The Experience: The Moment of Truth! Around midnight, your guides will wake you up for hot tea before starting the steep climb up volcanic scree switchbacks. You will reach Gillman’s Point (5,685m) on the crater rim just as the sun begins to color the African sky. Following another 1–2 hours of trekking past massive glaciers, you will stand at Uhuru Peak (5,895m)—the Roof of Africa! After celebrating, you descend back to Kibo for lunch and continue down to Horombo Hut for a celebratory dinner and deep sleep.

Activity: Final Forest Descent & Farewell Celebration

Distance: 20 km | Time: 5–6 Hours

Altitudes: 3,720m to 1,843m

Meals: Breakfast & Lunch

The Journey: The morning kicks off with a traditional singing and tipping ceremony with your incredible mountain crew. You will then complete a gentle descent through the moorland and lush rainforest to Marangu Gate. Here, you will sign out and proudly collect your official gold certificates. Our private safari vehicle will meet you and transfer you back to your hotel for a long-awaited hot shower and celebration.

Departure Day: Farewell Tanzania

After a well-deserved rest and breakfast at your hotel, our driver will transfer you to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your flight home or your next safari destination.
